R.I.P Michael Gough

Actor Michael Gough has died at the age of 94, he will be most remembered for playing his recurring role as Alfred Pennyworth in all four movies of the Burton/Schumacher Batman franchise, beginning with Batman (1989).

I'm ashamed to say his role as Alfred in the Batman movies the only thing I know him from, but I always thought he was the best actor to play the role (Michael Caine is very good, but he plays the role as more of a "father figure"). Although Batman Forever isn't the best film in the franchise, it does have my favourite line from Gough's Alfred when he tells Bruce that Dick Grayson has "taken the other car"

He was famous long before the 'Alfred' role.
He started in films in 1946 and has played numberous supporting parts.
He has also been in a few Shakespeare productions.

Very good actor, a sad loss.

Fine character and stage actor. RIP.

Sad news RIP

I took delivery of SkyHD yesterday and was flicking through the channels to put it through its paces and Batman Forever was on. Michael Gough appeared and I found myself idly wondering if he was still alive.

Then I read The Times today and his obituary's in it. Weirded me right out.
