sound problem

i need help sorting out the sound on my laptop, which is showing as full volume but not working. Recently if you just turned it off and back on a few times it would work, but now im getting nothing at all...any ideas? thanks

Try checking to see if your sound card is functioning properly; go to control panel click on the sound icon In the box it will either say functioning properly or not. If it all checks out then its got to be a software issue. Install anything new? Did you by chance end a process called svchost? If so, reboot. If all else fails try system restore.

Or go through the process rover describes but choose 'update driver'

the driver is already up to date....

It could possible be a loose wire other than that I cant suggest anything more. sorry

Have you lost sound on all sites using any browser? and do mp3s still play with sound on Windows Media Player?

When was it last working normally? then maybe you could do a system restore to the point were it was OK.

yes lost sound on everything, was working fully probably a month ago, and then if you were patient and just turned it off and back on until it worked it was ok, but now it has just gone. sorry not to good with computers, what does a system restore entail?? thanks for all your effort so far!
