An outstanding drama by Tony Richardson starring Tom Courtney as a troubled teenager, who after being sent to Borstal realises his talent for cross country could set him on the right path in life. Also starring Michael Redgrave in quality form as usual.

Fist Fight (2017)

Starring Ice Cube & Charlie Day

A teacher sacked from his job in a rough US school blames a fellow teacher and challenges him to a fight after school.

I found this comedy much better than the reviews I read, the two leads are very good, and the fight itself is reminiscent of Rocky V.

Justice League

The 5th film in the DCEU which is a very good fun & very entertaining comicbook film with fantastic special effects, great action & not as dark as most of the previous films in the DCEU have been with plenty of humour throughout the film

Whilst the returning Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) & Superman (Henry Cavill) are all very good, the stars for me are the new DC superheroes that debut, in particular Aquaman (Jason Momoa) & The Flash (Ezra Miller) both steal the show from start to finish.

Some very good setting up of upcoming DCEU films as well, in particular for Aquaman (with Amber Heard as Mera), The Flash: Flashpoint & Justice League 2.

There are 2 scenes in the credits, a fun one partway through and a great humdinger of a scene right at the end of the credits

9/10

The Grandmaster(2013) The story of Ip Man, a martial arts master, who in later life trained Bruce Lee, though this stylish film deals principally with the 1930s to the 1950s period in China, cleverly bringing in such events as the Japanese invasion, World World Two and the post war exodus to Hong Kong. As I said stylish, with gorgeous cinematography and clever, occasionally overdone choreography. Tony Chui-Wai Leung as Ip Man and Ziyi Zhang give strong central, underplayed performances, and make them characters you can emphasise with. Also starring Quinxiang Wang. 7.5/10

Babel(2006) A selling of a gun has an impact on the lives of people in four interconnecting stories. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Arriaga has experience of this multi strand storytelling before, having used it successfully in the films 21 Grams and Amores Perros, and this is a success too, with strong performances from an ensemble cast, especially Brad Pitt,Cate Blanchett,Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi. The director has a talent for often using just the camera without any dialogue to tell the story. A classy soundtrack too, mainly Mexican and light classical. 7/10

Man On The Moon(1999) The biography of comic entertainer Andy Kaufmann. Jim Carrey is the perfect fit in role of Kaufmann, both Carrey and the film skilfully cover his eccentric,at times uncompromising behaviour, his clashes with the broadcasters( he didn't like sitcoms, so was not keen on his hit show,Taxi) and his wish to follow his own course . There's also very good performances from Danny DeVito as his manager,Courtney Love, surprisingly good as his girlfriend and Paul Giamatti as his writing partner. The last period of his life, battling cancer, is covering in a moving, unsentimental way. Also starring Michael Kelly,Gerry Becker and Leslie Lyles. 7.5/10

The Lighthouse(2016) Based on a true story and set in 1801 on a South Welsh island lighthouse, two keepers(Mark Lewis Jones & Michael Jibson) battle the elements and their thoughts and minds when bad weather delays them finishing their shift. A slow, occasionally dull and repetitive drama, main assets, fine acting from the leads, moments of creepiness and unease and fine sea storm special effects. 6/10

RE: Last film you watched
Justice League

It’s not as bad as there making out but as with most films not perfect.
The cast great and each of characters get there screen time and even with the characters such as Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg you see that they have great chemistry together. Cyborg was the one I had concerns about not his cgi but in turns of character development but happy with what they did him and others, I know there’s been talk about them having deleted scenes which didn’t bother me too much as we’ll get more back story with each of characters in there own film starting with Aquaman next year.
The villain again I didn’t have a too much issues with he was menacing and threating but even can be honest and say his not gonna be remembered as great villain again Marvel films have issues with villains serving there purposes and being forgettable this is no different.
The story is straight forward and CGI is good along with action set pieces especially if fan of comics you see Easter eggs here there.
There is a return of someone but how it plays out totally badass. The sound track as we know was changed and there’s been a lot up roar with some fans because of changes now when you hear the new soundtrack along with movie it sounds and fits better in context of what’s going on.
Here are things I can see might not work for some people at times at the st start of film it does jump a little after the cinema cut of BvS you would think Warner Bros would realise that now whether it’s To with keeping the run time down or bad editing that we may never know.
I think it could have done with another 15 to 20 mind to flesh out the story now I understand why there trying to keep the run time down as most films these days are too long and could be shaved down a little but not to point of where it effects the pacing of movie so there they should have made it a little longer.
Then the issue with Henry Cavill and his moustache in places you do notice the cgi isn’t quite right as you know he was filming Mission Impossible 6 and Paramount wouldn’t let him shave it for the reshoots for Justice League so Warner Bros are stuck between a rock and hard place I understand the issues people have with it but Star Wars Rogue had two very dodgy cgi characters with there faces but there wasn’t so much fuss and that it me was worse. It’s hard to do a human cgi face no one has got it right yet closes good cgi face was in Blade Runner 2049.
Also we know the story of the film was changed from Zack Snyder original version which we know happened after BvS and the critics and some fans were mixed on it so Justicd League was changed to lighter tone as know you know Justice League been getting a mixed reviews now people wanting Zack’s version I do wish people would make up there minds one min they hate his work now they love him. I would love to a extended or alternate version on home release. Finally the fuss about stuff missing from the trailer or tv spot people forget Star Wars Rogue did the same thing with a lot of stuff missing or changed you see the original ending for Rogue One in the second Trailer but it’s no excuse.
Overall the good out weighs the bad, if your expecting a Marvel/Avengers kind of film you might be disappointed or if your expecting BvS or Thor Ragnarok again you might be disappointed. If you wanna watch a good super hero film with badass moments then it might be your cup of tea. The two post credit scenes very good finally good post credits, the first one right out of the comics and happened in Smallville too. In general I would say go out and judge a film for yourself.

9/10

Spider-Man: Homecoming - 9/10.
Much better than I expected. The others feel as if they are rushing the character along, this one has a much better pace. Plenty of action, good humour and I like the fact he still has a lot to learn. He's a teen with abilities and messes up like a teen would. The thing I didn't like, was that there is too much technology in his suit, does the character really need it? Nah.

The Great Wall - 7/10.
Thought it would be shit, but it ended up being entertaining, don't know what accent Matt Damon was aiming for though.
It's hardly Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but it's a fun fantasy film. A plus point, Jing Tian, a great actress and stunning too.
