Dragnet (1987)

A completely bonkers but enjoyable police spoof that serves as both a parody of and homage to the 1950s TV crime series of the same name. Starchy, by-the-book LAPD cop Joe Friday (Dan Aykroyd) and his fun-loving, streetwise partner Pep Streebek (Tom Hanks) have their hands full with their new case - a bizarre series of thefts that leads them to a cult responsible for human sacrifice. The eclectic and strange mix of characters they encounter, including a creepy vicar, a slimy porn baron, a naïve heiress, a dim-witted delivery driver and a bent police chief - reminded me of the inhabitants of Grimsborough, the setting of the Facebook video game Criminal Case. I wonder if this film was one of the inspirations for that game? Anyway, there's plenty of gags and each time I watch it I see one I missed last time. Christopher Plummer, Alexandra Paul, Dabney Coleman, Harry Morgan, Elizabeth Ashley, Lenka Peterson and Jack O'Halloran also star. 3/5

A Bigger Splash(2015) Recuperating lovers, rock star(Tilda Swinton) and photographer(Matthias Schoenaerts) have their holiday on an Italian island interrupted by the arrival of Swinton's ex(Ralph Fiennes) and his daughter (Dakota Johnson), and tensions inevitably arise. Definitely pros and cons in this film, the plot is rambling, its overlong(two plus hours) and despite a charismatic, scene stealing performance from Fiennes his character is rather annoying. However, there are compensations, the four leading performances are good, an air of tension is nicely built up and the island(filmed in Sicily) cinematography is striking. Also starring Corrado Guzzanti,Aurore Clement and Elena Bucci. 6.5/10

Blade Runner: The Final Cut.

A classic film which still holds up to this day and the film looks stunning on blu ray and the sound playing through a home cinema system is fantastic especially in scenes where you can hear it raining or water dripping. Back in the day Sean Young was really hot lol.

9.9/10.

Sean Young was not just hot but talented as well, pity her career was destroyed when she complained about being sexually harassed on the set of Dick Tracy.

One of the reasons actresses were reluctant to complain about such things.

Why Him - 7/10.

The first five minutes or so dragged, but it picked up and it was very funny.
_____

Fast & Furious 8 - 9/10.

Switch your brain off and enjoy. Jason Statham stole the show, the stuff on the plane was brilliant.

The frozen ground (2013)

Starring Nicholas Cage, John Cusack, Vanessa Hugdens & 50 Cent

Based on the real life case of serial killer Robert Hansen who hid the bodies of his victims in the frozen wastes of Alaska in the 70's & 80's
This film got some pretty poor reviews but I found it to be very gritty and realistic with very good performances from the lead characters especially Vanessa Hugdens whose portrayal of the only victim to escape Hansen's clutches is a long way away from high school musical.

In Our Name(2010) Joanne Froggatt plays a soldier who struggles to adjust to home life after serving in Iraq. Froggatt is excellent giving a well rounded performance in a generally low key drama while Mel Riado who plays her husband( also a soldier with anger issues) is good too. Its only fault, really is a slightly over melodramatic last quarter an hour or so. Also starring Chloe-Jayne Wilkinson,Andrew Knott,Janine Leigh,Drew Horsley,John Henshaw and Bill Fellows. 7/10

Madron(1970)

A good western from director Jerry Hopper following a gunfighter and a French-Canadian nun who must survive in the wilderness whilst avoiding the Apache warriors that massacred the rest of their party.Effective cinematography and beautiful scenery both add to the strong turns from Richard Boone and Leslie Caron.

7/10
