Hmmm, it could be either of those. I think I'll give my internet provider a call later on to see what they can advise.

What about watching offline videos that you've downloaded - I presume they play smoothly and without a hitch?

Are you just having a problem watching online streams, or is your download speed of other files affected as well?

Also you mentioned ignoring an Adobe pop-up. There have been a lot of recent updates to all the flash content, due to this back-door hacking by the Chinese. Not only Adobe, but Macro-media as well. I would also check that your Java versions are up to date as well, as some sites us Java players instead of Flash.

Download speed is fine, aceman. Just a problem viewing clips/streams.

Having spoken to my internet provider (what a nightmare that was), it appears my wireless modem router is indeed the problem.

So, any recommendations on wireless routers?

I recently loaded Mcafee Internet Security which I get as part of my o2 broadband package and have since when watching web streams been experiencing the stream " freezing", also if watching ( shall we say ) you tube vids they have slowed down somewhat.
Have I done something wrong in the set up or do I need to adjust the Mcafee settings, or does anyone else experience this.
PS, I am a complete novice when it comes to computers.

It's McAfee that's the problem. As it constantly checks to see if it's updates are current. And it takes over the bulk of your processor when it does so. I turned off my automatic updates on it, And that lessens the problem. But it still does it's checks every 2-3 hours, even with updates turned off. It just doesn't install them.

On my system it only lasts a few seconds now. But when I had automatic updates turned on. It used to last several minutes whilst the update was in progress.

So it's not just me then, was wondering if I had done something wrong.

I think you're right about Mcafee being the problem, I used to use AVG free edition and that was alright.

Okay, been having a tinker around with this, tried the above and it did make a bit of a difference, but still have the problem.
Out of curiosity I tried turning off the McAfee firewall , ( left everything else in McAfee running ) and turned on the Windows firewall.

Excellent, no freezing of the web streams, I also noticed that just the general surfing and navigating around has sped up, happy days.
What my concern is running the McAfee internet security and Windows firewall together, how safe / vulnerable does this leave my computer, not being proficient with computers any advice would be great.

So in my limited knowledge it would seem that the McAfee firewall is causing the problem, but, where to start with their settings is beyond me.
