You think thats strange you wanna try watching the same thing but knowing your team won the European Cup just two months before, from AC Milan in Istanbul to Total Network Solutions at Park Hall Stadium. Now that is a strange feeling!!!

A good player John Arne Riise, he's good for 5-7 goals a season, come May that could be a 4-5 points difference.

Haha yeah that must be strange, but you have a great chance of getting into the Champions League this season, you may have paid over the tops, but you have got some good players there now, you just need a new defence!

As well as his goals and experience, he can play left wing if we need him to which will be a bonus, and he's a better left back than the homesick Salcido! Also he might revitalise his shitty brother into playing well!

We need a new first choice left back & thats about it, we've got plenty of good youngsters in all 4 positions albeit Jack Robinson isn't yet 18. Philipp Degen, Sotirios Kyrgiakos & Fábio Aurélio (Due to injuries) aside all the above will be at Liverpool for a long time yet, so how you get we need a new defence! I'm not quite sure given this season we only need a new left back!!! Maybe we should've brought Arne back

Since moving to Dublin a few years ago I started going to League of Ireland matches, the Irish league runs from March to November so you get to see matches in June and July which is good because you dont miss any footie in the summer

Before I start, I will reiterate what I said in the Liverpool FC thread, I am not a United or Everton fan. I'll run through your list:

Johnson - defensively rubbish, if he was any good, Chelsea would have kept him
Degen - Don't make me laugh, one goal against United aside, he is shit
Flanagan - has potential
Martin Kelly - Only defender of yours who is any good
Carragher - already discussed
Aurelio - on his last legs
Robinson - has potential
Agger - past it
Wilson - haven't seen enough to make a fair comment, but a decent youngster I'm sure
Skrtel - a poor poor poor man's vidic
Kyrgiakos - can score a bit, but that's it
Ayala, Coady, Wisdom - youngsters for the future

So in conclusion, maybe the right back isn't too bad, though you could definitely improve it, you definitely need a left back as you said (should have looked at Arne ) and you certainly need at least 2 centre backs, 1 needs to be world class. That way you can get rid of 2 out of Carra (retire), Agger, Skrel, Kyrgiakos and maybe make some money as well!

In no way do I mean any disrespect with this, I am just being honest!

So at just 26 years of age Daniel Agger is past it?? Prone to injury the last year and a half - yes....to suggest he is past it- absurd

Anyway cutting to the chase in the last 6 years ONLY Chelsea (161) and Man Utd (172) have conceded less premier league goals than Liverpool (186). In the same period of 6 years (not surprisingly given the above) ONLY Chelsea (121) and Man Utd (113) have kept more premier league clean sheets than Liverpool (111). That suggests we have had the third best defensive record in English football for a sustained period of time.

Not bad for a team with no defence ehh??

Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but was it not Degen who scored the chip when you battered United at their place?

Agger has played 90 odd league games in the 6 years he's been there - that must be a lot of injuries or he can't cut it.

Those stats sound fantastic, congratulations! But tell me the stats for last year and the year before, because those are the relevant ones when I say you have no defence. I never said you've never had a decent defence, clearly your stats show you used to, but now, last season and maybe the season before?-no, you haven't got a good defence. You haven't got a good defence for where you Liverpool fans expect your club to be.

Its typical of a Liverpool fan to argue with historical facts, you argue with past glories! Stop living in the past!

Season just past only Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea had better defences. Liverpool, Fulham and Arsenal were next conceding the same amount (43). Season before which was 2009/10 only man Utd (28) and Chelsea (32) conceded less than Liverpool (35).

You see the trend there???? It's EVERY year mate not just the distant past.

By the way...i'm not saying our defence is fine the way it is. Every defence can be better and certainly i'd prefer if ours was best rather than 3rd best. But to say we need a whole new defence is stretching it a bit. A left back and another decent centre back as cover is all we're short.

Fair enough, but surely for a club with aspirations such as yours, you want to be in that top category, not with us and Arsenal's defensive record!

In that sense, you need to improve you defence!
