I cheat!
My computer has a video card with S-video ouput. This connects to a standalone DVD recorder. I then edit the dvds on my PC.
My computer is not powerful enough to do full screen video capture directly at a reasonable frame rate.
I believe other people on this site use/recommend Bulents BSR screen recorder. Do a google search for it. There is a free version available.

The other leading piece of PC software for stream capture is WM Recorder

is it any good (wm recorder) just download bulent screen recorder looks a good program easy to use

I use a Mac so can't advise on which is better. A2C used to swear by BSR so I'm guessing it would be more than sufficient for your needs.
