Imagine... Vivian Maier: Who Took Nanny's Pictures?
Alan Yentob investigates the strange story of a woman who took over 150k pictures in her lifetime, but most ended up sold from her storage facility when she couldn't pay for it any more. Her background in France was as mysterious as her later hobby work in Chicago. The folk who bought her stocks soon pooled info when they realised the depth of the resource. A charmingly inspiring story, not without its warning elements.

Y Sin: Jack Moyse
An arts magazine show, this bit looked at a young photographer who also has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, but still manages to keep shooting, for now.

1 - From the hustle-bustle of Lagos, via chats about slavery and Fela Kuti, to the more Northerly Kano, and a durbar and a chat with an Emir.

2 - travelling south from Kano, he witnesses boxing and polo, visits the impressive Zuma Rock and Mount Patti, and finds mixed luck with roads, to the extent of taking a train trip at one point for his own safety.

HARDtalk: Paul Auster
An American novelist who just died, but Stephen Sackur went to NY to talk to him in 2021, so here it was again in tribute. I've never heard of him before, and equally not read any of his books.

Why Iran Hates America
Fareed Zakaria gets a whole special to recap the last 70 years of American jiggery-pokery and fails to really suggest any blame.

3 - the row about the Benin Bronzes, the prospects for palm oil, and mixed fortunes in rivers, but instead of ending on a downer, he returns to Lagos to visit a megachurch where the rapture of thousands blots out the tragedies he leaves behind.

Mostly a thoughtful series, even if his conclusions were somewhat melancholic.

4 - the finale sees them head from Whitby, through Durham and Newcastle, and eventually squeak to the border with Scotland, a somewhat ignominious end to an otherwise largely charming series.
The Big Steam Adventure
2.1 Back for a 2nd series, though mercifully each one seems to be contained to one area without needing to be sequential. Which is to say this week they pratted around the Lake District, next week they're apparently going to the Isle of Wight.
