RE: TV versus Webstreams
Its TV through an aerial or dish for me.
Big business knows enough about me already without handing them my tv watching habits. Watch TV through the web and in time your ISP and the TV channel will add you to their frequent flyer list.
We already receive targeted web ads, and google is getting scarily good at predicting my websearches, which is really embarrassing when a relative uses the computer and gets popup "dating" ads from milfs in my area that are too good to be true.
Give it time and streamed TV will start loading intelligent ads. Instead of Amy Solaris selling washing powder, James Reed pushing jobs, Peter Andre doing anything except sing and creepy dentists, us discerning gentlemen will be bombarded with ads for durex, singles holidays, divorce lawyers, red hot gambling, dating sites, sex toys and lingerie. Which gets embarrassing when your kid/other half/parents/neighbours only get family friendly ads for the same shows at the same times.
I also want adult stuff on a whopping big tele not a tiny computer screen. Even if I put the webstream through the tele, I still cant record it (or Freeview), unlike Sky.
My internet connection drops quite a lot, unlike TV signals.
(At least I get a halfway decent connection, unlike anyone in the countryside - do your job Ofcom and force ISPs to spread profits round. Lack of water, electricity or a phone would not be acceptable, why not broadband?)
Occasionally I have to reset the router or IP address, particularly when a website crashes a transaction. Routers burn out. It might only be after a few years, but it can take a week to buy a new one.
At other times I max out my connection, or other members of the household do, with data and software downloads.
More importantly, there are literally 10s of webstreams out there, many of which feel stale, aimed at other markets, or like a private porn video. A TV channel is a TV channel, but the webstream of a TV channel is just one of many webstreams. Dont ask me why, but there is something about watching a licenced UK TV channel tens of thousands of viewers that adds to the turn on. We have all seen a topless woman, but seeing one live on, say, the Brits, would have a bigger effect than the same level of exposure in a porn video.
